Ranma nibunnoichi is definitely one of our favorite animes, and we thought it would be totally hilarius if we made costumes from that ONE picture....
It seriously was like.. a last minute plan, and we thought it was freaking hilarius. especialy since I used Akane's wig for Ryouga!
Unfortunately we haven't gotten any pictures on top of any buildings yet.. but that day will come.
Most people didn't really get it, and usually people would recognize me because of P-chan.. but Laina said we did a good job on the suits.. and she makes good suits too so that made us really happy!
haha.. ranma wears periwinkle.
I made this dress for the OMGWTFBBQ that risingsun.net had, and let me tell you it was SO HOT that day.. holey moley!
I dyed the fabric about a million times, and it never got as bright as I wanted but what can you do.. I also dyed the wig- it was the first one I dyed, and I am soooo pleased!
This dress is pretty good, but the collar got all weird in the end.. so I don't know what's up with that!
Bulma wears this dress in ONE episode and a movie I think.. but IN that episode, she totally BBQs, so I made an apron to go along with it! yeahh! Complete with Buu gloves to the max!
My power level was totally over 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my gosh! we actually got good wigs! *gasp!*
I used my universal Sugar/Ichigo/Hikaru wig for this, and it turned out looking just fine, actually, so I was happy about that!
and then I created my child- Victoria's Minto wig! =D!
I've never done an updo wig before, and this one had these crazy huge bun things!! The wig was originally a shoulder-lengthed bangless wig and I transformed it into a love child.
The photo was from a photoshoot we did with Manny D, a really talented photographer in the orlando area. We also took pictures of our Mew mew Maid costumes and our classic dirty pair with him that day.
They're the same just with the new minto wig!
It was fun trying to act in character for all these little photos we took!
lol.. guess what! Victoria finally finished Salt! haha it only took a few years! but I needed new pictures of Sugar pretty desperately, so it was all good! She makes the cutest little fairy boy ever, seriously! SOO CUTE!
We did this shoot with Troy, and we got some goood pics out of it! Plus fun times! There was a children's festival going on the same day we were taking pictures, in actually the park we wanted to go to.. so after we took pictures somewhere else, we decided to walk around and see what happend. We ended up walking past this adorable boy with his mom.. "Hey mom! what's their names???" "I don't know, why don't you ask them?" and he asked.. to which we replied in character and he was delighted. We got some really cute comments from the kids walking by "Mommy! why are they fairys??" "Mommy, she's pretty!", etc.. it was so fun!
The boy's mother actually puts on childrens events and she invited us to come to one, but unfortunately it ended up being the same day as megacon on sunday.. so we missed out.. though if my sleeping/health situation was better during that weekend, I totally could have gone to both..
Akane- Mahou tuskai tai 魔法使いたい
I made Akane for anime Expo this year, and Victoria finished hers in time for AWA this year, but we didn't get to wear them together till 2007!
Mahou tsukai tai is such a cute show! I saw it a long time ago, but I don't exactly remember when- I was probably in highschool or middle school at the time.
I think Akane is a great character because she's so cute, powerful and stupid at the same time! well- it's just a memory problem.. but it's something I find that I have been having in common with her more and more! (that's not always a good thing... =o) Plus, she totally goes on dates instead of going to the club meetings! what a ho!
Sae is such a cute character! Her personality shows through in Victoria through her naievity (in certain situations) and strength of heart. Honestly, she's very similar in character to Hikaru from Magic Knight Rayearth. Sae has very strange hair and it was very hard to figure out what to do for it! We decided to use Victoria's own hair because it's curly and chunky and strange (lol) like Sae's!
The shoes are actually 5" and relatively painful after a while, but dayumn.. if I was tall enough to win america's next top model.. it'd be in the BAG, baby. Those girls are such wuses when it comes to heels!
The entire costumes were somewhat of an experiment, we made the hats, altered the shoes and gloves, and made the boxes from scratch.. not to mention they have WEIRD dresses (Akane's, it turns out, isn't really physically possible. I had to utilize some clear elastic to make this happen. This was also the second wig I've dyed! =D
May I present.. my favoritest costume I've made ever!?!?! Originally we started working on Nanami, Saionji and Utena at the same time, but due to fabric problems and a loss of drive and patience, Nanami and Saionji have not been finished.
I made and wore this costume to AX this year, and I am eternally grateful that I did! I met wonderful people there due to this costume (Masayune, Pikminlink and my beautiful Anthy, Sundari-chan)!! I was fortunate enough to get to buy a sword made by Pikminlink and her father, which is so beautiful!
My jacket is exciting- it's made out of Velvet and it fits me like a glove! It's very comfortable too- so I don't know how all of that worked out because it usually doesn't!
This is really the first time I've completely styled a wig to look exactly like a character, and I could not be more pleased with how it came out! I'm not always happy with the color, but it looks really nice in photos all the time, so I have learned to love it!
I believe I got into Utena when I was in ninth grade in highschool, and my good friend Kaji sent me tapes so I could see it! It's such a unique series with really interesting characters- I instantly fell in love! I share many qualities with Utena.. her strength, naievity, passion, will to protect and determination. I am not, however, very good at basketball!! Baseball is a win though (especially wig eggs.. bwahaha)! I definitely share a strong protecting instinct, especially towards cute indian girls! <3
The only thing annoying about this costume is the whole "OMG Utena yay yuri!!!" thing I get from people constantly at conventions. Utena is actually not a lesbian.. and her relationship with Himemiya is more complex then just "yuri" (which I wouldn't categorize it that way at all). There's so much more psychological stuff going on then more people even care to notice.
Utena's duellist uniform is transformable into her school uniform! It makes the clear skirt move around more than it would if it wasn't transformable, but
To top it off, I made her pajamas, but most of the pictures I got of it are at night, so the lack of good lighting makes my face look all shiny for some reason! If you look close, you can notice the rose buttons!
MKR was the first show (besides the sailor moon movies) that I watched in Japanese, and it's always been one of my favorites! I love CLAMP, and I learned SO MUCH Japanese from MKR.. wow! I am fortunate to have watched such a good anime when I was 11, and it was easier to learn foreign words.
Umi is another one of those characters (I swear I say this every time and it becomes less believable each time) that I basically identify with all her good and bad traits. She's a water chick with a temper who often speaks before she thinks about the effects of her words. Plus, I can make a mean German Chocolate cake!
In the second series, Umi is captured by one of the neighboring countries, Chizeta, and her armor disappears, so they dress her in their native clothing! I made this costume for AX as kind of a last minute addition, but I really like it! The skirt is actually an ancient sheet! I had to cut around the rust marks O.o.. Yay for spray painting shoes!
Bulma strikes back! I decided to make her classic dress from later Z because it was easy and I could use the same wig!
I totally scored some bouncy dragonballs at AX. so I took those around with me when I wore this to AFO, and it was fun to bounce them on the floor while I walked. They actually looked AWESOME in some photographs- they shine like real dragonballs.. though in half the pictures I have I'm holding it the wrong way.. haha.
I'm really proud of my little dragonball booties, though they're hard to see in this picture. I made them the right poofyness so they looked so cute! I actually made the dress too small in the bust (I was altering a pattern down from a size 12), so this dress kind of makes me look totally flat.. haha.. go me! The only thing I want to change about this costume is I want to put interfacing in the scarf or something because it'd start out great.. then get limp. I made it out of silk, so that's why.
At Dragoncon, 2006, I was fortunate enough to cosplay with two EXTREMELY beautiful ladies, Stacey and Amanda! They were planning on making Natalia and Sydney and didn't have an Abbey to finish off the group. I'd always seen things for Danger Girl comics since I was really young, and I was interested but never picked one up. Thanks to Stacy and Amanda, I picked up the whole series (like.. the premium boxset package) and I loved it!
Abbey is awesome because not only is she
Oh, this costume made me gain a deep respect for desert eagles *drool*, this airsoft gun is SO FUN!
ahem.. I made the pants out of lycra, and the top is also lycra with thick lining so you can't see through it (I hate working with white.. seriously). My belt was actually altered by a guy AT dragoncon- he had a belt store. It was awesome! because I needed it to be MUCH smaller than my normal belts, which is what I measured the other one to.
My pants were actually kind of falling off without it =(!
I was a little too afraid to make them tighter, because I didn't want them to look TOO tight, and I didn't want them to rip.
Somehow I pulled off the "mock turtleneck" thing of her top, and it was magical indeed! Though, while at the convention, some creature from the black lagoon or something asked me to take a picture with him, and he got green from his costume on the back of one of my sleeves.. that was not a happy moment.
Stacy cut my wig at the convention for me, and she did an amazing job, I couldn't have asked for more! =D
Luckily, we got a photoshoot with lionel, and the photos (as you can see) were beautiful!
We met a diehard fan or two, and that really made my day, because I love seeing the people that really appreciate your costume!!
I want to add a few things to this- the DG on the belt, the belt on the right leg, a gun holster and new gloves when I get a chance. The boots were the best buy for a costume I've ever had though! I wear them every week! <3
Hopefully, the good times, the great people, and my talents will improve this year(2007)! I look forward to busting my butt on tons of costumes!
